Protect yourself
  • Use a latex or polyurethane condom to protect yourself every time you have sex.  Use condom safe lubricant.
  • Avoid oral sex if you have bleeding gums or mouth sores - and don't brush or floss an hour beforehand.
  • Don't share needles, razors or toothbrushes.


Get Tested
The CDC recommends getting an HIV test every 6 months to a year if you are sexually active.  Knowing your status helps you take control of your health.  If you are pregnant, knowing your status helps you and your doctor protect your baby. 
The GHSU Ryan White Outreach Team offers FREE, rapid, painless HIV testing several times a week.  Your result is available in 20 minutes.  See the testing calendar for locations, dates and times.

Fight AIDS at Home!
To support FightAIDS@Home, you simply download a free software program from World Community Grid that runs "in the background" on your computer. This is called the FightAIDS@Home client, and it processes information (in this case using the drug design software AutoDock) and evaluates prospective candidates for drug discovery.  See FightAIDS@Home for instructions.



Fold Proteins
Foldit is a revolutionary new computer game enabling you to contribute to important scientific research. With all the things proteins do to keep our bodies functioning and healthy, they can be involved in disease in many different ways. The more we know about how certain proteins fold, the better new proteins we can design to combat the disease-related proteins and cure the diseases.  See the Foldit site for more information on the science behind Foldit and how your playing can help.


Volunteer for an HIV Vaccine Trial
If you are interested in participating in a trial or in getting involved in a local Community Advisory Board, select a trial site in a city near you and contact the site recruiter or community educator. If you would like to get more information about the HVTN community education program email info@hvtn.org.
