The Outreach Team is part of the Ryan White Program and Infectious Diseases Healthcare Team at Georgia Health Sciences University (home of MCG). Our mission is early intervention for those infected with HIV. Early detection and treatment are key factors in HIV care. Thanks to advances in treatment, people with HIV can now live long, productive lives, with proper, regular treatment.
What We Do
The Outreach Team was envisioned in GHSU's first Ryan White grant application. Since 1996, we have provided free, confidential HIV testing, counseling and treatment referrals at testing sites throughout the Aiken-Augusta area. The team and our services are made possible by the financial support of a federal Ryan White Part C Grant and your generous contributions. We test over 800 people annually. Since our inception, the team has linked more than 100 people with HIV to care.
In addition to providing free rapid HIV testing, we work with HIV positive clients to ensure a smooth transition into care. Outreach Team members schedule initial appointments and accompany new clients to their confirmatory lab visit, initial immunology lab visit, clinic intake and initial visit with an Infectious Diseases specialist at GHSU.
